Hubs and devices live in BusinessMade → Operations, split across two tabs on the same screen: Devices and Hubs. A location switcher lets you look at one location or All locations.
The hub card
Each hub shows its id, location, agent version and when it was last seen, plus three status badges:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| API key · minted | A key exists |
| Online · connected | Agent connected and heartbeating |
| Peripherals · N reported | The agent can see N devices |
Actions are Diagnose, Edit and Delete.
Diagnose
The most useful screen in the product when something is wrong. It shows:
Connection — online state, connected since, agent version, the box's IP, and when the key was minted. Ping measures round-trip latency; Refresh re-reads state.
Peripherals — everything the agent can see, each with a type badge, name, path and status, and a Connect or Disconnect button. A summary line lists the configured endpoints. rescan re-reads the box after you plug something in.
Advanced — manual path entry, network printer setup and cash-drawer attachment, for hardware discovery cannot find on its own.
Recent events — a live tail of what the hub is emitting: scanner reads, drawer-opened, printer errors. Leave it open while testing and you see the hardware respond in real time rather than guessing.
Scan a barcode with the panel open. If the read appears, the scanner and the hub are both fine and the problem is downstream in the app.
Editing a hub
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Name (ID) | The hub's auth handle. Changing it breaks the agent until reconfigured |
| Display name | Label only |
| Description | Where the box is and what is plugged into it |
| Location | Reassigns the hub. The agent keeps working with the key it already has |
Moving a hub between locations is safe — no reconfiguration needed.
Rotating the API key
Regenerate invalidates the previous key immediately. The agent on that box is locked out until you reconfigure it.
To recover, on the box:
sudo hub-agent setupand paste the new key.
Printing and scanning stop the moment you regenerate. Do it when someone is physically present, not mid-service.
Regenerate when a key may have leaked, or when decommissioning a box.
Adding devices
Most devices are created for you — the agent reports what is plugged in and you press Connect in Diagnose. See connecting devices.
Add direct device is for hardware the server reaches without a hub: network printers, SMS pagers, Stripe Terminals.
Deleting
Deleting a hub removes the record. The agent on the box will fail to authenticate and stop. Uninstall the service on the box too, or it retries indefinitely.
