Finance

Wallets, payouts, wallet transactions and payments.

Finance holds internal balances and moves money out. It sits between commerce, which brings money in, and the outside world, which is where it eventually goes.

Wallets

A wallet is an internal balance belonging to someone — a marketplace seller, an affiliate, a delivery agent, a customer with credit.

Balances move by credit and debit, and funds can be held without moving, which is the escrow between an order being placed and it being fulfilled. A wallet can be frozen.

A hold that is never resolved keeps funds locked

Holds must be explicitly released or committed. Nothing expires them, so whatever creates a hold needs a path that resolves it.

Payouts

A payout takes money out of a wallet to a real account. The lifecycle is deliberately stepped: requested, approved, processed, then completed — or failed, or cancelled.

Processing and completing are separate because bank settlement is not instant. Marking a payout complete when it was merely submitted would report money as delivered while it can still be returned.

Payouts can also be run in batches.

Payments

Payments are the charging side: charge outright, or authorize and capture separately when you bill on shipment rather than on order. Voiding an uncaptured authorization and refunding a captured payment are distinct operations.

Where a discrepancy appears, gateway transactions can be read from the provider rather than from local records, which is how you reconcile.

Customer-facing

Sellers, affiliates and agents see their own wallet, their own payouts and manage their own payout methods — without access to anyone else's.
