Scan instead of typing
The POS search accepts a scan. Point the camera, or a paired scanner, at:
| Code | What opens |
|---|---|
| A product barcode or SKU | The product, added to the cart |
appmint://sf_product/<id> (a product's QR from the web catalog) | The product |
| An event ticket QR | Validation, in the event scanner |
| A staff NFC card | Quick sign-in, on the login screen |
Scanning is a first-class input across the app: the ticket scanner, accreditation and the code scanner all use it.
Hardware scanners: pick the mode
A Bluetooth scanner works two ways, and the wrong one costs time:
Keyboard (HID) mode. The scanner types into whatever has focus. The app captures fast bursts of keystrokes as scans, so it works without setup — but a scan while a text field is focused lands in that field. Turn App-wide hardware scanner on under Devices → Barcode scanner and keep fields unfocused when scanning.
BLE mode. Pair the scanner under Devices → Barcode scanner. Scans arrive directly and never type into a field. Switching the scanner to BLE is a one-time configuration barcode on the scanner itself; the pairing screen shows it.
Camera scanning needs no pairing and is fine for occasional use; a door queue or a stock count wants a real scanner.
Search everywhere
Every list has a search field: products, tabs, leads, contacts, tickets, people. Search by name, email, phone, SKU or reference. Search is the way to find a record in a long list; scrolling a thousand rows on a phone is not.
Refresh
Lists load when you open them and refresh on pull-down. If a colleague changed something on another device and you cannot see it, pull to refresh before assuming it is missing. There is no background sync.
The home screen
- Grid or list toggle, top right, for tiles.
- Hide tiles and groups you never use under More → Home apps & groups; fewer tiles means fewer wrong taps on a small screen.
- The chat pill at the top counts unread live chats and jumps to them.
- The header location picker is the first thing to check when a screen looks empty.
The tab strip
The POS keeps several carts open at once. Use the strip to hold a phone order while serving the counter; Save each cart before switching so a colleague can pick it up from Tabs on their device.
What needs a connection
| Works without a connection | Needs one |
|---|---|
| Nothing reliably — the app reads live | Every list and screen |
| Card payments (Tap to Pay, M2) | |
| Ticket validation | |
| Sending receipts, SMS and email |
The app does not cache data or queue actions for later. If the venue network is flaky, the honest answer is a hotspot for the till and cash as the fallback tender.
Small habits that add up
- Set course and seat while taking the order; retrofitting them at the pass is slower.
- Save before Send to prep — an unsaved cart cannot fire.
- Use Take payment for one-line charges rather than building a tab.
- Keep the Floor honest: clear dirty points as they are bussed, or Check-in's Spots panel lies.
- Set your quick-login passcode on day one; typing a password on a shared till is the slowest thing in the building.
- Never sign out of a configured device. Sign-out unpairs the printer, the card reader and the scanner, forgets the location and resets the home layout. Quick sign-in swaps the person without touching any of it.
- Long-press a product tile to 86 it mid-service — faster than going to the menu editor and it reaches every device the same way.
