Service day playbook

A full shift end to end — open the floor, seat from the queue, take and fire orders, settle, release tables, and handle no-shows.

This is the sequence a front-of-house team runs on a phone or tablet, in order, with the screen for each step. Every step writes to the same records, so a second device sees the state as soon as it refreshes.

Before doors

0. Sign in with quick sign-in, not a password — and do not sign out. Signing out on a till clears the printer, the card reader, the scanner, the location and the home layout, and you will be pairing hardware instead of trading.

1. Pick the location. The header picker. Every screen below scopes to it.

2. Check the floor. Floor — anything left dirty or blocked from last night, clear it. A point stuck on occupied with no party is a tab that was never settled; find it on Tabs → Open.

3. Set the menu. More → Menu: switch the day-part, 86 what is out, note the prep station on anything the kitchen has moved. Applies to every device at once.

4. Look at today. Reservations → Today. Large parties and notes are worth reading now, not when they arrive.

As parties arrive

Booked. Reservations → the row → Check in. The party joins the live queue and the row shows In check-in queue. A second tap does nothing, so the host stand and the door cannot queue them twice.

Walk-in. Check-in → the walk-in button. Name, phone or email (one is enough), party size, any preference. They are in the queue and in the CRM.

Waiting. The queue shows how long each party has waited and flags the SLA. Notify sends the ready text and email again.

Seating

Check-in → the party's card → Assign → pick a free point. The server refuses an occupied or reserved point, marks the chosen one occupied with the party size and time, marks the booking used, and notifies the guest.

The confirmation dialog offers Take order. It opens the POS with a cart already on that table, labelled with the table's name. Skip it for parties that are only being handed off (pickup, counter) and come back later.

Ordering and firing

In the POS: build the order, set course and seat where the kitchen cares, Save, then Send to prep. The kitchen ticket appears in Pipelines under the prep pipeline. Fire again later for the next course — only unfired lines go.

Tickets show under the station chips (kitchen, bar) when products carry a prep station. The pass watches All; a station watches its own chip and advances Received → Prepping → Ready. Ready flips the Ready chip on the tab so a runner knows.

Mid-service moves

NeedDo
Party moves tablesPOS → the tab → Transfer → pick the point
Two bills from one tableSplit → by lines, or into N shares; each becomes a tab
Print the checkPrint on the tab, or from Tabs
Join two tabs on one tableOpen a second tab on the same point; the server allows several tabs per point
Something ran outLong-press the tile in the POS → 86 it with a reason (or More → Menu)

Settling

Settle from the POS or the Tabs screen. The server re-prices first. Take the tenders — cash with change, Tap to Pay or the M2 reader, bank transfer, other — add a tip, choose the receipt. A tab can be paid across several tenders and each charges on its own.

Cash is the only tender allowed to exceed the amount due.

Releasing the table

Settling does not free the point. Either release it from the tab (default marks it dirty) or on the Floor screen. Bussed → Clear → available. Keeping this honest is what makes the Check-in Spots panel trustworthy.

When things go wrong

SituationDo
Party leaves the queueLeft on the card; the booking is untouched
Party never showsNo-show; the booking is marked no-show
Wrong table assignedRelease the tab from the point, assign again from Check-in
Tab settled twiceRefund the duplicate payment from the closed tab; do not void the tab
Kitchen wants a refireAdd a fresh line and fire; firing the same line again is refused
Card reader goneCash, or reconnect under More → Payments; card payments cannot be queued
The reader needs re-pairing mid-serviceExpect 2–5 minutes on a first pair while firmware updates — take cash until it is done
Nothing printsCheck a default printer is still paired under More → Printer; someone signing out clears it

Closing

Tabs → Open should be empty. Anything left is either an abandoned quick sale to delete or an unpaid bill to settle. Floor → clear the last dirty points. The day's sales are already in reporting; there is no end-of-day step on the device.
